Style Guide: How to layer clothes?

Layered clothing is a manner of dressing using multiple garments that are worn on top of each other. Some of the layers have different, largely non-overlapping, functions. Using more or fewer layers, or replacing one layer but not others, allows for flexible clothing to match the needs of each situation. Two thin layers can be warmer yet lighter than one thick layer, because the air trapped between layers serves as thermal insulation.
Dressing in layers probably dates back many years, perhaps many centuries, but its recent revival in fashion stems from the 1960s and 1970s when the hippies or street people, so-called bums, discovered that layering was inexpensive, very effective, and comfortable. By the early 1970s a number of entertainers had adopted the dress and it has spread to many other walks of life since that time, largely because it has proven to be quite comfortable and affordable.

The color and fabric are some of the main points to consider when layering clothing. You should avoid using too many layers – 3 things on top is just about enough. You risk looking bulky if you overdo it.
When it comes to the colors, neutral colors are very good for layering as they have low saturation and are therefore not bright and intense, which gives you a harmonious look, while pure, brilliant colors will become central making the softer colors fade. Here are some layering ideas for your outfits...

 - Layer a blazer over a cardigan and fitted top : If you’re going for a classical and polished look, you should layer a blazer over a belted cardigan and a top.
- Mix different fabrics together: For a personal and stylish look mix different fabrics – put a sequined cardigan or shrug over a T-shirt, a short military inspired blazer over a simple top or a waistcoat/vest over a white shirt.
